Message from the Dean

Welcome to the homepage for the school of liberal arts at Schreiner University, and thank you so much for dropping by!  While you are here I hope you take a quick tour of the wide range of the majors you will find in liberal arts, including English, history, communication studies, theatre, religion, political science, music, and psychology, among others.
Dr. William Woods
I’ve been an English professor here at Schreiner University since 1998 and the dean of the school for the last five years, and in that time I’ve watched so many dynamic and purposeful students just like you successfully complete their degrees in our exciting and innovative academic programs.  I must admit I’m biased: I’ve often said they are the heart and soul of Schreiner University.

Perhaps you are the artistic type, an actor or a creative writer or even a music-lover – our degrees in liberal arts would be ideal for you.  Maybe you are interested in becoming a lawyer or a politician?  Be sure to examine our various political science options.  Do you feel called to the ministry?  Maybe you are considering a career as a psychiatrist or counselor?  Perhaps in your past a certain history or English teacher inspired you to follow in his or her footsteps and become an educator.  Here in the school of liberal arts we can make all of those (and many more!) goals a reality.

Our qualified and caring faculty will work closely with you to achieve your goals, and during your time with us you might play a musical instrument in our symphony or campus band, act in or direct our university plays, write for our literary magazines or school newspaper, join our pre-law society, work with ground-breaking researchers in our exciting behavioral philosophy lab, visit nearby museums and art galleries, travel abroad to London, England with our English faculty or to Venice, Italy with our creative arts faculty, or even present academic papers at undergraduate scholarly conferences around the nation alongside your peers and your lead professors.

You can rest assured that the knowledge and skills you gain from a liberal arts degree at Schreiner University will prepare you for graduate school, seminary, law school, or a workplace that values your ability to communicate well, to think critically and carefully about complicated problems and to solve those problems, to work together well in teams, to research effectively and dig through the current overload of complex information, and to understand the new interconnected global world we all find ourselves in.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly by phone (830-792-7425) or email me if I can answer any questions or tell you more about our outstanding major fields of academic study in the school of liberal arts.  Or even better, set up a campus tour and come see us in person – you will be so glad you did.  Wherever your journey takes you, I wish you the best of luck and much success.
