Schreiner University’s New Banking Program
The program will offer a minor in finance for resident students and a certificate program for non-degree students, notably employees of regional banks who – with the support of their employers – wish to upgrade their skills to be able to perform more challenging tasks and take on more responsibility within their bank.

The curriculum will remain the same for both the minor and the certificate programs, focused on courses in accounting and finance.

Degree program students will engage in a summer internship with a partnering bank after the sophomore and junior years, directed and overseen jointly by a bank mentor and Schreiner faculty member.

Certificate students will undergo a structured work assignment within the bank, also directed and overseen by a bank mentor and Schreiner faculty member.

Panel of Advisors
Partnering banks will have the opportunity to serve on the Schreiner Banking Panel of Advisors. This panel will meet regularly to discuss the program and offer suggestions for improvement.

Members will be given the opportunity to share their knowledge in various classes in the program.

Participating banks will be asked to sign a charter agreement between the University and the bank specifying the responsibility of each party.

Partnering Banks
Regional banks choosing to partner with Schreiner will be asked to provide a $5,000 scholarship for a student in both the junior and senior years, and a summer internship after the sophomore and junior years.

This connection between the bank and the student will lead to the potential of full time employment after graduation. Students who choose not to accept an employment offer from the bank will be expected to repay the scholarship.
